WORLD VIEW...

The Trained Observer

March 2010

In the world today, there is a great need for trained observers of current affairs. This might seem a strange idea – most people probably think they are competent observers of world events. Yet, if we assume this, we ignore a number of factors that can distort our vision. These factors are the biases, prejudices and preconceptions (or glamours and illusions as they are known in the works of Alice Bailey) which we acquire as we grow up. They come from many sources – nationalist feelings, political ideologies, religious conditioning, and other social influences. Furthermore, such internal distorting filters are quite separate from any distortion due to the various agendas of the media. So, to be able to observe an event clearly, one must be aware of both these internal and external distorting factors, and able to detach oneself from them. In effect, the individual steps outside of his own distorting filters, his own personality, and sees life and events not as they affect him and those closest to him, but as they affect the world. And beyond that, he sees them not so much in terms of the outer forces at play, but in terms of the inner flow of consciousness. He then comes into touch with the world of meaning.

GOODWILL, A CONTAGIOUS QUALITY

The most contagious human quality which can be organised and made effective is goodwill. It has been defined as “Love in Action”. People of goodwill are potentially the richest asset in any nation, and can have tremendous influence on public opinion when properly associated and focussed. To bring in the new day, we do not need a further appraisal of the world condition based on a particular ideology or point of view. Rather, we need a deeper sense of reality based on spiritual values, and a new perception of humanity as a unit of divine life within an ordered and purposive universe.

GOODWILL IS... the touchstone that will transform the world

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

The World Goodwill Newsletter presents a universal spiritual approach to topics of concern. Deeper analysis can be found in our Commentaries.

A world prayer, the Great Invocation, is distributed on a worldwide scale in many languages and dialects. World Goodwill also cooperates in organising the annual World Invocation Day, with special focus on the use of the Great Invocation worldwide.

The Goodwill Meditation Group, a worldwide group of people who meditate once a week on the energy of goodwill. Their subjective work strengthens human consciousness, making positive, forward-looking solutions to world crises more possible.

A series of study papers on the major problems of human progress. Emphasis is placed upon underlying causes and emerging trends rather than on a factual survey of events. The use of the trained mind in reflective thought and meditation is encouraged. Study groups may be formed, and there is also online discussion of these problems.

A programme of distributing literature, both electronically and in printed form, on a variety of spiritual topics, including: the imminent reappearance of the World Teacher, known by Christians as the Christ, and by those of other faiths by many different names; the nature of the Divine Plan and how we may cooperate with it; the work of the spiritual Hierarchy; and others.

Seminars featuring guest speakers such as Mae-Wan Ho, William Bloom, and Daniel Wheatley on topics of world interest; and interviews with servers from many different fields, with transcripts and audio files available online.
