What should I read first?

With so many titles to choose from, it is often difficult to know which book by Alice Bailey to read first. Some people start with a book that relates to their particular interest. For example, those interested in healing may be drawn to the fourth volume of the Seven Rays set, Esoteric Healing; those with an interest in psychology may be drawn to the first two volumes of the Seven Rays set, Esoteric Psychology, Volumes 1 & 2.

Others find it helpful to start with Ponder on This, a compilation of quotations taken from all of the books. It offers an overview of the teachings, exploring many subjects such as meditation, light, reincarnation, etc. Other compilations are also available on particular themes.

The Arcane School recommends Esoteric Psychology, Volumes 1 & 2 and three other titles (A Treatise on White Magic; From Intellect to Intuition; and Initiation, Human and Solar) as books that will enable the reader to gain an understanding of the core elements of the teaching in preparation for joining the school:
