Three Spiritual Festivals 2013 letter
In the secret of direction lies the hidden wisdom. A.A. Bailey
Dear friend,
From the celestial map of the heavens by which early mariners navigated to distant lands, to the city tourist peering at a digital map on a Smartphone, the study and communication of spatial information has always engrossed humanity’s attention. And while the map may not immediately spring to mind as a defining symbol of our age, we nevertheless live in a world in which maps are everywhere and where nearly everything seems to have been mapped, from the stars in the galaxy to the human genome.
The irony is that there is a danger of becoming lost in the very maps that we rely on to help us find our way. In this scientific age for instance, the creationist map of Earth’s history from a genesis no more than ten thousand years ago seems to defy rational thinking. But then what of the cosmologist’s 13.7 billion year time map of the entire universe, including a detailed account of the first three minutes? This mechanistic map, in its turn, seems to defy intuitional thinking with its picture of the universe as a tomb of lifeless matter rapidly expanding in all directions without aim or purpose. Intuitively space can be perceived as a living entity, "static (relatively speaking) in capacity; it preserves a set form".1 It is human awareness of this great life, Space, that is expanding, not the phenomenal universe within it.
The interesting thing about all this frenetic mapping is humanity’s search for direction and meaning through measurement of the phenomenal world. But it is another kind of map that is required for this search – one which recognises that every speck of matter in the universe is endowed with purposeful life and consciousness. Such a map is held in the mind of God. The Divine Plan maps out the way in which spiritual powers are driving evolution forwards. Drawing on the insights of Wisdom teachings down the ages we are able to see the outlines of this map and use them to help guide the human family through these turbulent times towards new frontiers of awareness.
2013 is particularly important in this regard as, from an esoteric perspective, it is a year of emergence and impact upon public consciousness. Since the festival week of the new group of world servers in December, the energies of the divine plan have been working through the group of all who love and serve to further enlighten human awareness. And now as we prepare for the higher interlude of the spiritual year – the festivals of Aries, Taurus and Gemini – we can boost the process further by helping to deepen our understanding of this spiritual map and using this fresh understanding in response to the questions: Where are we? Where do we want to be? And how do we get there? These questions can only be answered in the light of the divine plan, and the three spiritual festivals provide the most auspicious time for applying spiritual direction to the menagerie of forces that make up the phenomenal world.
For our encouragement, we can see that a new map of consciousness is clearly emerging now via the countless groups and organizations dedicated to the physical, psychological and spiritual upliftment of humanity. As they use the World Wide Web with increasing intelligence and imagination, we can see the beginning of a new age of enlightened thinking slowly but surely encircling the globe. The outer communication networks are a symbol of humanity’s progress towards synthesis and unity and they herald the beginning of an age of telepathic interplay that will one day be a natural way of communication and used as routinely as the internet or the telephone is today. We will then know more about each other in a far more direct way through the development of our own instrument, the trained and illumined mind.
In the meantime, it is perhaps inevitable that the current period is one of discriminating and redefining the nebulous boundaries between privacy and public knowledge. Although we probably don’t have to worry too much about a map as described in the Harry Potter books, where everyone in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry can find out what everyone else is doing at every moment, already when we consult a map on a Smartphone, we’re being mapped ourselves as we reveal information about our interests and pursuits. In this electronic age we are moving into a seamless interactive environment where there is the undeniable potential for further intrusions into people’s private lives. But on the positive side, this a reflection on the physical plane of significant developments taking place in the consciousness of humanity as we progress towards a golden age of telepathic interplay and the integration of humanity into a vibrant, fully conscious centre of force in the body of the Logos.
With this in mind, we can approach the three spiritual festivals with a clear eyed vision, fully aware of the jeopardy that confronts humanity on its journey in consciousness yet rejoicing in the opportunity. Our emphasis during the three spiritual festivals this year is firmly placed on the new group of world servers who are influenced by the divine energies of Taurus which bring true direction through "illumination and the attainment of the vision… This group is, figuratively speaking, the ‘bull, rushing forward upon a straight line with its one eye fixed upon the goal and beaming light’."2
We live on the threshold of a new age of stupendous energy, beauty and wonder. And the emergence of these new vistas of the divine consciousness on earth is dependent upon those who can meditate, think and visualize with a heart aflame with love for humanity. As we approach the festivals of Aries, Taurus and Gemini, we look forward to our subjective work together and sharing the joy and inspiration of the energies awaiting precipitation.
