Secretary-General Guterres Calls for Coordination and Solidarity in Building a "Different Post-Virus Economy"

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has issued a statement calling for "shared responsibility and global solidarity" in response to COVID-19. He states that "we must see countries not only united to beat the virus but also to tackle its profound consequences."  He reminds us that "we are only as strong as the weakest health system in our interconnected world."

"The recovery from the COVID-19 crisis must lead to a different economy.

"Everything we do during and after this crisis must be with a strong focus on building more equal, inclusive and sustainable economies and societies that are more resilient in the face of pandemics, climate change, and the many other global challenges we face.

"What the world needs now is solidarity. 

With solidarity we can defeat the virus and build a better world."

Post-Coronavirus Digitalization

In a recent interview, Secretary-General Guterres highlights that the crisis will inevitably lead to the mass digitization of human relations which could provide a major impetus for the development of artificial intelligence and other cyberspace activities. He highlights the need for “regulation and other mechanisms so all that development of the digital world is done for the benefit of humanity and that the risks that exist, and are well known, can be avoided.”
