The theme of the new moon meditations is strengthening the hands of the group of world servers.The meeting will include a brief talk, discusson and meditation with the goal of clarifying group thinking about the solution to major world problems.

At this point in our cosmic calendar year, the aspirant takes a stand as the archer, bow drawn in silence as aim is taken at the goal. Under the influences of Sagittarius there is an opportunity to learn the lesson of “restraint of speech through control of thought”. In The Labours of Hercules, Alice Bailey says “The problem is clear: I am a Sagittarian and so are you. We are living with the emblem of Sagittarius in front of us all the time. We are trying to bring harmony into our lives, trying to lead the ‘altar’ life, seeking to contact the serpent of wisdom. Begin with thought and speech, and begin today” (p. 168).
“Restraint of speech through control of thought” hints at right speech as the natural effect of a purified mind. It is not an imposed pseudo-silence any more than it is the vitriol that characterizes modern rhetoric. In The Reunited States of America, Mark Gerzon says “The dynamic of E pluribus unum is the challenge of a free people, and we rightly celebrate it... What I learned about conflict is that it is most constructive and least destructive, when it is at the optimal temperature. If it is too hot, it burns and ultimately destroys. If it is too cold, it freezes and ultimately paralyzes. What we need is conflict that transforms (or cooks) into opportunities for positive growth, change, and innovation. Pluribus, the friction of our differences, creates the heat. Unum, our shared identity and institutions, keeps us cool. Together, E pluribus unum creates a powerful dynamic that is at the heart of American genius” (p 15).
Theme for Discussion: How can awareness of “temperature” aid in right speech? How can right speech aid in cooling the fires of conflict? To acknowledge what is too hot, what is too cold, what is just right, and how to harness the potency of these temperatures to effect change? The group has worked with this idea before, moving “out of the fire, into the cold, and toward a newer tension”. How can this be applied anew?
