Meditation is the primary form of service for those following a spiritual path. It is a means of cooperation and alignment with hierarchical intent. The new moon period follows upon the cycle of out-breathing in the rhythmic cycles of the breath; it is a time of pause wherein together we can establish a soul-mind-brain alignment.  During this period we work in thought to concretize the ideas and impressions received at the time of the full moon period and undertake the sometimes difficult process of translating them into practical plans that can be of service in the world. The effect of this meditative effort is to enhance the many ways in which the “power of the one Life” and the “love of the one soul” are working out through all true servers everywhere. The meeting will include an exploration on the theme Toward a Deeper Understanding of Forgiveness, followed by meditation and group discussion. Toward a Deeper Understanding of Forgiveness
New Moon in April

The usual interpretation of the word forgiveness is that it is concerned with pardoning someone for an alleged offense. However, its spiritual interpretation is very different. It is seen as signifying giving-for—the giving of one’s whole self in support of the good of the whole. This spiritual interpretation of forgiveness indicates the relinquishing, the sacrificing, of personality self-interests. It also indicates the giving up of one’s practical life to “the salvage of the world.” This salvaging effort is a primary mission of disciples, members of the Group of World Servers, and people of goodwill worldwide. A deeper understanding of forgiveness is developed through identification with the soul, and this understanding is demonstrated through the right handling of one’s responsibilities at every level.

The need for forgiveness is also a salient virtue for national groups and today is fundamental to established processes of international reconciliation and transitional justice. Though forgiveness is understandably a rare practice in politics, it is a fundamental component of a lasting peace which addresses the underlying causes of war and conflict. Such efforts require the relinquishing of resentment, of “injustice debt’, and sustained constructive acts which seek to consciously build right relationship.

A fundamental barrier to forgiveness in international and domestic politics is a perceived or real lack of justice. Justice is inherently subjective, and understanding of the types of justice that lead to lasting peace and right relationship have evolved greatly over the last 100 years. A necessary part of justice is the elimination of hatred for “hatred closes the eyes of justice;” it limits the ability for right discrimination and grants a distorted perspective. Forgiveness is fundamental not just to right relationship at the individual and societal level but also to the right adjustment of individual and racial karma which brings the triumph of essential goodness and the elimination of hatred and separateness in all its many forms.
