75 Years On: The United Nations Looks Forward

FRESH VISION AT THE UN

Two recent articles/reports caught our attention because of the fresh vision of the UN that they represent. First is the Secretary-General's report. 'Our Common Agenda' and second is an article by the Co-chairs of the civil society Coalition for the UN We Need.

  • Secretary-Generals report, 'Our Common Agenda' presents a vision and practical steps for the future of global cooperation.  When world leaders endorsed the UN's 75th anniversary declaration they requested Secretary General António Guterres to produce a report to the General Assembly with "recommendfations to advance our common agenda and to respond to current and future challenges". Released on September 10, the report calls for a new focus on "the values of trust and solidarity in one another – the very values we need to rebuild our world and secure a better, more sustainable future for our people and our planet." It proposes a 'Sumnmit for the Future' to take place duirng the opening of the next session of the General Assembly in September 2022.
