In Memoriam: Sarah McKechnie

It is with deep appreciation for her life of service, that we announce the death of Sarah McKechnie who served as President of the Lucis Trust and Head of the Arcane School from 1989 until 2012. Sarah passed away Monday morning, 6th July 2026 at her home in Bellingham, WA. She is survived by her husband and long-time partner in the work, former Lucis Trust Vice-President, Dale McKechnie.

Over the years she was President, Sarah travelled to many countries to meet with students and co-workers, uplifting and inspiring the lives of many. She was well known for the depth and simplicity with which she presented the teachings. The intensity of her love and dedication to the work was a source of strength for many, and we have no doubt that her service continues on the inner planes.

She leaves behind an extensive bibliography of work, much of it published during her tenure in The Beacon. A small selection of these articles can be found below. From 2000 to 2008, she and Dale held a weekly radio program, Inner Sight, which addressed universal spiritual principles drawing on the Bailey teachings. It was broadcast every Sunday morning throughout the New York City area. In total more than 400 programs were broadcast over the eight years. A selection of these can also be found below.

Please join us in remembrance of Sarah and her work, and in holding her transition, and the new avenues of service opening before her, in the light.
