Questions & Answers
Frequently asked questions related to starting a full moon meditation group.
What is the purpose of a full moon group?
One may ask, why are these meetings held at the time of the full moon? What has the moon got to do with it? The energies of light and love and the will-to-good are always available to those who can contact them in meditation; but there are cycles in the ebb and flow of spiritual energies with which groups, as well as individuals, can consciously cooperate. One of the major energy cycles coincides with the phases of the moon, reaching its peak, its high tide, at the time of the full moon. This is a time, therefore, when the channeling of energy through group meditation can be uniquely effective. |
Today many serving groups around the world meet regularly at the time of the full moon each month for meditation work. The moon itself has no influence on the work; but the fully-lighted orb of the moon is indicative of a free and unimpeded alignment between our planet and the sun, the solar centre, the energy source for all life on Earth of physical consciousness, of soul awareness and of spiritual life. At such times man can make a definite approach to God, the Creator, the centre of life and intelligence. |
The Hierarchy makes definite use of the full moon periods. We can, if we will, learn to cooperate with the Members of the Hierarchy as They work to bring the Plan to the attention of disciples everywhere throughout the world. In undertaking this full moon service, work imaginatively in so far as you can as a member of the new group of world servers, dedicated to world service. Spiritually and telepathically the group is one and the work is one. |
The purpose of a full moon meditation group is not for social reasons. The full moon meditation group is not to be viewed as a social gathering of people to mingle, network or socialize. The meditation work is quiet and the group should strive to maintain a quiet center of focus before, during and after the group session. We encourage group members to follow these guidelines to become more effective world servers and maintain the overall group purpose of a full moon meditation group. |
How do I form a full moon meditation group?
It isn't necessary to have a large number of people to begin a group; in many ways it is better to start with just two or three individuals who are committed to meeting monthly in meditation. This helps to anchor the work and slowly, more people will be attracted by the group's purpose. You may find it helpful reading the story of a co-worker who wrote about the experience of forming a meditation group.
What is the format of the meditation meeting?
How you organize the meditation group is for you and the group to decide. The meditation outline for the full and new moon are used by the three headquarter centers in New York, London, and Geneva, and several other groups. Of course, you are free to use these formats or not, as you wish. For those who have never attended the full moon meditation at Headquarters, the format includes a 20-25 minutes talk on the current zodiac sign and then a 20-30 minute meditation. Usually meetings begin with a brief talk that is given by one of the headquarters staff, touching on some aspect of the work of the spiritual Hierarchy of the planet, service of the Plan or teaching on the Path of Discipleship; this talk leads up to group meditation which is entered into as a conscious act of service. These meetings are not looked upon as lectures to which esoteric students come to receive help and information. Although it often happens that some problem is clarified and students are helped, this is quite incidental to the work of united group meditation. Because of this, students prepare themselves before hand for these meetings, for an understanding of the purpose and the techniques involved results in a live and intelligent participation in such group activity. Headquarters provides pamphlets, brochures and other information for guest to take with them when they leave. |
It is also helpful to remember to keep the work simple. The full moon work is not intended for only Arcane School students, students of the books of Alice Bailey, or esotericists. The meetings should appeal to anyone with a general spiritual orientation who is interested in the service of humanity. It’s always good to keep in mind that this work is laying the groundwork for the coming world religion, with this in mind we can see that it will, of necessity, have a broad appeal to many different types of people. |
How many people should be in the meditation group?
We understand the frustrations in starting a full moon group as it can be challenging. The inability to attract a core group of workers is one that many groups experience; it takes time and patience to see the work grow. In the beginning as the group is forming, you might start off with only 2 - 3 people including yourself. Most full moon groups are quite small and even if you only have one other person with whom to work, that’s a start. It is fine to have a small group. Sometimes people believe that large numbers of co-workers are needed to do successful work, but it has been our experience that even one or two besides yourself is enough to get started. Even if just a few friends join with you in meditation, that is an important contribution to the worldwide group effort. As the group establishes its presence and potency, it will become a magnetic core attracting new members.
Where do groups hold their meetings?
Some groups hold meetings in their homes whereas others are able to procure public space, such as local churches, hotel rooms, clubhouses, libraries, bookstores or spiritual centers which can provide space at little or no cost. Find a comfortable space which is quiet and welcoming for all.
What are some suggestions for making your full moon group known?
1) If you wish, we can place the contact information of full moon meditation groups on our website so co-workers in your area who are interested in participating will know about the meditation group. Once your meditation group has been established, if you would like us to add the group to the list on our site, kindly send us the contact information - Group name, name of contact person, phone number, email address and if you have one, the website address. Contact Lucis Trust Headquarters to have your group added to the Worldwide Network of Servers database. This database is a list of groups worldwide which support the work of Hierarchy. |
2) Word of mouth is always a nice and free way to advertise. If your group has a website address, you can email the full moon group to your email list and/or place your website on other web portals. We suggest that if funding is available, you can take out brief ads in local new age newspapers advertising the meetings. You can also create flyers and post them on bulletin boards at nearby spiritual bookstores, clubhouses, and community centers. |
3) Start collecting and maintaining a list of names, address and email addresses so you can contact people about your full moon group. When you go to spiritual events within your community, bring flyers and pamphlets about meditation at the full moon and give to others. We will be happy to send you a quantity of the "Meditation at the Full Moon" folder upon request. |
Are there pamphlets and other related information available that can be distributed to the public?
Yes, we have information that can be distributed to the general public and hope that your group will have these pamphlets available during the full moon meditation meeting. Please contact Headquarters to request these pamphlets and brochures.
