Just days before the election, on 28 October 2016, I attended a seminar amidst the salubrious surroundings of the Palais des Nations, Geneva, “the capital of peace and freedom”. The topic of the seminar, which attracted 150 people from a wide range of backgrounds, professions and nationalities, was: “World Good Will, Ethical Responsibility and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations”.

The keynote of the seminar in Geneva was that we can make development sustainable, but it requires global cooperation and global accountability, the partnership of governments, private sector, civil society and citizens alike to recognize the urgency and put plans in place with an eye to future generations. But, it was emphasized, this action implies the need for social and political will, and behind that is, and must be, a willingness for the greater good as opposed to individual agendas. ...

World Goodwill has supported the work of the United Nations since the inception of the UN. On Friday, October 28, 2016 World Goodwill will, for the first time, host a meeting at UN Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The theme is From Intellect to Intuition : The Ethical Responsibility of the Sustainable Development Goals. The following day, Saturday, October 29, the focus on the theme From Intellect to Intuition will continue in Geneva with a seminar at another location in the city. There will also be seminars on this theme in London and New York on October 29.

Итак, каковы достижения Саммитов? Те, кто надеялся на какой-то радикальный прорыв, который реформировал бы обанкротившуюся систему работы с беженцами в разгар кризиса, были неизбежно разочарованы. 

Но были и значительные достижения. Нью-йоркская декларация для беженцев и мигрантов единодушно одобрила на Саммите ООН ряд принципов, согласно которым страны могут сотрудничать в разработке более скоординированного и комплексного реагирования на нужды беженцев.

Обещания на Саммите Лидеров, полностью выполненные, почти удвоили бы места для переселения беженцев, увеличили гуманитарную помощь на $4.5 миллиардов, предоставили образование еще 1 миллиону детей беженцев и улучшили доступ к легальной работе еще для миллиона взрослых. Газета «Гардиан» прокомментировала, что разочарование после Саммита в понедельник исчезло во вторник после того, как 18 развитых стран объявили о планах увеличения легального доступа для беженцев, 17 развивающихся стран обязались увеличить для них доступ к образованию, а 15 утверждали, что примут различные меры, способствующие расширению доступа беженцев к работе.​

Speaking at the High Level Forum on the Culture of Peace at the UN on September 1, 2016, David Nabarro referred to efforts to implement the SDGs as a movement for what it means to be a human being. Nabarro is the UN Secretary General's Special Advisor on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Achievement of the Goals depends, he said, on our ability to resolve differences in a way that is peaceful. Without the Declaration and Programme of Action on the Culture of Peace we will not achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and we will not have a fit world for the generations to come.
