Kofi Annan: His Life and Legacy – 3 June 2019 Central Hall Westminster, London

UNA-UK organized this inspiring and thoughtful public event celebrating former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Anan. The event was preceded by a full day conference at Chatham House, home of the Royal Institute of International Affairs: ‘Our Shared Humanity’: The Legacy of Kofi Annan.*

Author Steven Pinker holds that, against news reports to the contrary, the world is actually improving. And he has the data to prove it. This is the thesis of his 2018 book, Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress (Penguin Books). In a talk at the United Nations Bookstore in New York on 20 May, 2019, Prof. Pinker, who teaches psychology at Harvard University, explained why he believes that the world is getting better, and he analyzed the role that the United Nations (U.N.) has played in its betterment.

Cuando Kofi Annan, como Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas se retiró en 2006, después de una década de servicio, dejó casi un millón de documentos a la biblioteca de las Naciones Unidas en Nueva York. Estos documentos, que contienen las observaciones oficiales, declaraciones e informes del Sr. Annan, así como sus cartas desclasificadas, notas escritas a mano y memos, están ahora disponibles en línea a través de una plataforma electrónica creada por la Universidad de Nueva York (CCNY).

The global compact for migration is the first, intergovernmentally negotiated agreement, prepared under the auspices of the United Nations, to cover all dimensions of international migration in a holistic and comprehensive manner. Following extensive consultations, a text for the Compact has been agreed and is to be adopted at an Intergovernmental Conference in Marrakech, Morocco, 10 – 11 December this year.
