The Right Concentration of Power
Three Spiritual Festivals 2020
The energy released throughout the Festival Week of the New Group of World Servers,* was of such magnitude that we are continuing its general focus as we prepare for the Three Spiritual Festivals. Our central theme will be “The Right Concentration of Power.” This relates to the directive to evoke Power found in both the mantram of the New Group of World Servers (May the Power of the One Life pour through the group of all true servers) and the Great Invocation (Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth).
This latter injunction is probably the most highly charged sequence of words ever assembled for public use and merits a closer look. Light, Love and Power are related to three great aspects of the Divine Plan: Light is related to the field of Education, Love to the field of Religion and Power to the field of Government. These three aspects of the Plan form a triangle of circulating energy in the superhuman kingdom, and this needs to be reflected into and through the human kingdom for the Plan to work out.
In this regard, world problems arise when imbalance occurs. One example of this can be seen in the field of Government where too much power has become concentrated in the realm of economics and finance. The economist Dani Rodrik describes the result of this as a drive towards hyper-globalization – an economic form of world integration. An unworkable triangle of force has consequently appeared at the heart of world affairs which he calls a “trilemma”. The three vertices of this triangle are Economic Globalization, National Sovereignty and Democracy. While any two vertices of this triangle may work together and expand, it will be at the expense of the third which will, of necessity, contract. “Our troubles have their roots in our reluctance to face up to these ineluctable choices” says Rodrik, in presentations such as The Economics of Populism and in his book, The Globalization Paradox.
Increasing world unity requires the relegation of economics to its rightful position in the Divine Plan – in the field of Government in cooperation with the other two aspects of Politics and Law. This would mean a transfer of power from the organisations currently determining the rules for globalization. We might, for
instance, contemplate, as Professor Rodrik has done, how different the world would be if, instead of the rules for globalization being decided by the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World Trade Organization, they were determined by United Nations intergovernmental bodies such as UNCTAD, the ILO and UNESCO. A shift of power along these lines would clearly be a step towards aligning humanity’s expression of Government with its prototype in the spiritual kingdom.
The problem of hyper-globalization has arisen through the wrong orientation of humanity’s desire nature. And it is the second great aspect of the Divine Plan – the field of Religion – that can help to reorient desire towards the spiritual realms and express the Love contacted throughout the world. While theological doctrines have proved anachronistic and ineffective in lifting humanity’s vision above the glittering distractions of this modern age, new aspects of the field of Religion will find resonance with 21st century hearts and minds if presented in a credible manner. These aspects are: A New Global Religious Spirit, The Process of Initiation and The Science of Invocation/Evocation.
The root meaning of desire can be traced back to the Latin phrase de sidere “from the stars,” and as we approach the Three Spiritual Festivals in Aries, Taurus and Gemini, we might reflect on how right desire entails reaching up to the stars, evoking their power, and drawing it down to earth to create a foundation of Love on which the human kingdom can be restructured in accordance with divine purpose. This is achieved through the science of Invocation and Evocation, which is particularly effective at the time of each full moon period when the Earth, Sun, and one of the signs of the zodiac are in alignment. Observation of these full moon festivals is destined to form the basis of a future universal approach to religion.
As the desire nature of humanity is brought into right alignment, the third aspect of the Divine Plan – the field of Education – will become consciously dedicated to the goal of Enlightenment and the production and expression of Light on Earth. As it stands, the concentration of power in world economics and finance is having
an overbearing effect on the field of Education too. That is not to diminish the good work that is being done – the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is currently doing much throughout the world “helping individuals and nations to identify and develop the knowledge and skills that drive better
jobs and better lives, generate prosperity and promote social inclusion.” However, as laudable as these aims may be, at this point in world history, a fundamental question needs answering: “What is Education for?”
In the foreword to the book, Education in the New Age, the philosopher, Oliver L Reiser wrote of the urgent need for a theory of education “adequate to the new world that is emerging.” In such a philosophy, he said, “three fundamental needs must be met:
1. A psychological theory of the human person to be ‘educated’.
2. A social theory of the kind of society one is trying to create or preserve as a suitable home for the cultural ideals promulgated.
3. A world view or cosmology, a theory of man’s place in the universe in which man is spectator and actor.”
We can see from the above, some of the shifts that are required to align human consciousness with the Divine Plan. During the Three Spiritual Festivals, and in particular, World Invocation Day when we place a supreme focus on use of the Great Invocation, it is worth reflecting on how Light, Love and Power are working
out in the world in their respective fields of Government, Religion and Education. The Lucis Trust is placing a renewed focus on this work and we invite interested co-workers to explore the Service of the Plan study course in this connection. May we all continue to deepen our understanding of what it means to Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.
