A New Reality

The following remarks were broadcast in the Triangles Webinar on October 2, 2017:

Through consciously creating lines of light and love through our triangles work we are working with our higher selves to create a new reality. The beauty of this work is that in the conscious creation of a vision based on light, love and right human relations that permeates each triangle and radiates out into human consciousness, it stimulates those within the human family who are receptive, to seek this higher vision in their own daily lives. This work, therefore, creates a new reality, so it is easy to see why it is so close to the heart of the Hierarchy at this time. For, light can indeed "descend on earth" and goodwill can also stream forth in fuller livingness into the hearts of men; thus, transforming their lives and bringing about the era of right human relations that is so deeply desired.

There is much to read nowadays on the importance of maintaining a connection with the higher self and becoming a conscious creator. And we are often led to believe that when aligned with the higher self, living in a state of Being so to speak, that worry is negated. That fretting about suffering, poverty and injustice in the world is a sign that one is not fully in touch with the higher self. That it is down to the individual to learn to live from a higher perspective which will then allow a life without worry.

There is of course, a major problem with this way of thinking, for it only takes into account one perspective, that of the perceiver. This perspective ignores the higher self, or God, as seen by all the other aspects of creation. A state of Being is after all, a synthetic state. A true state of Being will therefore, include not only one’s own perception of God but all other perceptions of God. It is not just the realising of one’s higher self, but seeing that higher self everywhere, ‘embraced in culture, embodied in nature and embedded in social institutions’. Pg. 290 This is perhaps best explained by a well-known story from Vedanta Hinduism, quoted in Ken Wilber’s book, A Brief History of Everything.

It reads as follows: A man goes to see an enlightened sage and asks for the meaning of life. He is told by the sage that the entire world is nothing but the supreme Brahman or Godhead and that one’s own witnessing awareness is one with Brahman. That his very Self is in a supreme identity with God and since Brahman creates all and since one’s higher Self is one with Brahman, then one’s highest Self creates all.

The man leaves the sage believing to have understood the ultimate meaning of life, which is that his own deepest Self is actually God and creates all reality. On the way home, he decides to test out this notion when he meets on the road a man on an elephant coming towards him. He stands in the path of the elephant believing that as he is God the elephant can’t hurt him. Despite the desperate cries of the man riding the elephant to get out of the way, he stands his ground and is knocked down and hurt by the elephant. He limps back to the sage saying that since Brahman is everything and since his self is at one with Brahman, then the elephant should not hurt him. The sage replies ‘Oh, yes, everything is indeed God, so why didn’t you listen to God when he told you to get out of the way?’

While it is true that spirit creates all reality, and the extent to which you identify with spirit the more you recognise that you are part of that reality, true creative activity will, however, encompass all other forms of awareness that are part of the reality, not just one’s own particular awareness. As Ken Wilber indicates, one’s perspective must include all the cultural, social and behavioural work that desperately needs to be done in all aspects of creation in order to fully express the spirit that one is. Therefore, those who are in contact with the higher self tend to identify more with the suffering of the world because they recognise that all is a component of that very Self. As Ken Wilber further writes, ‘With the supreme identity, you are established in radical Freedom, it is true, but that Freedom manifests as compassionate activity, as agonizing concern. The Form of Freedom is sorrow, unrelenting worry for those struggling to awaken. The Bodhisattva weeps daily; the tears stain the very fabric of the Kosmos in all directions. The Heart moves into those places where Spirit remains unheralded and unheard; the work is a passion, an agony; it is always fully accomplished, and thus never ending.’ What is important, however, is that while we engage with the suffering that is occurring all around us, we do not let it produce any limitation that can hinder our service. The lower nature will suffer, this we accept, but it is through centering our attention upon the higher realities that we will become increasingly detached from this suffering.

It is through a deep care for the world, for the state of human consciousness and the suffering that exists on all sides that triangles workers are motivated to come together daily to aid humanity. As triangles workers we are truly creative, working as spirit in creating a new reality through the daily use of the Great Invocation. By stimulating the light, love and power within human minds in all areas of human living to manifest the Plan, we strive to work with all aspects of creation. And we know, that this work as our higher selves, will bring about that which we so ardently strive for, because we know of the unconquerable nature of goodness and the inevitability of the ultimate triumph of good.
