Group Identification and the Mental Plane

Despite chaotic conditions in our world as old and new forms clash, on subjective levels there is a tremendous influx of light.  This inpouring light is aiding humanity to see more clearly, freer from the usual fogs and mists which so often obscure that ability.  This energies that pour in during this Capricorn period strengthen this ability to see clearly.  For Capricorn, clears the way to the mountain top, and thus  “reveals the rising sun.”  Then, through this means, the light of revelation pours through the group of world servers and, in turn, comes to condition human consciousness.

What a service, therefore, the inner group (of which Triangles workers are a part), is offering to the world.  We can see the success of this radiatory activity in the tremendous growth of individuals and groups who are waking up in large numbers, seeing through the fogs and mists and acting on their vision for a more just and caring world.

The process of waking to a fuller view of reality can at first prove challenging, like when you go from a dark room into a lighted one and your eyes have to adjust.  This period of adjustment occurs as we begin to see things that we don’t really want to see--for both the garden and the weeds begin to appear before our view. This is the process which many people are passing through at this time, leading some to a loss of hope and, as a consequence, to a tendency to succumb to fear of an uncertain future and the disempowerment this creates.  Within the mist of these forces the Triangles workers take their stand, impersonally and unceasingly radiating light.

It’s said that, “Disillusioned and deglamoured...humanity awaits the coming revelation.” (Alice bailey, Reappearance of the Christ, , p. 134) The disillusionment confronting so many people today can, therefore, be viewed in a positive light, as a sign of humanity’s awakening which will lead in time to a greater receptivity to new ideas and alternative solutions to human problems because they see clearly that the old ways are not working.  There is a growing mental polarisation and the consequent ability to discern truth, leading to cooperation with the Plan and a responsiveness as to how to implement it.

But what might be the revelation that will come as a result of the growing disillusionment and deglamourization?  It’s difficult for us to know what the Tibetan who was responsible for Alice bailey’s books is talking about here, is it the overall revelation of the externalization or is he talking about something more specific?  He says that this revelation is related to the combined efforts of the Buddha and the Christ. The Buddha’s work is very much related to this growing mental polarization within humanity.  His Four Noble Truths spelled out the way through disillusionment with material values as the path to liberation.  Buddh is the Sanskrit term for enlightened mind and Humanity is, after all stands as the planetary throat center, the planetary Mercury.  So the task of those members within the human kingdom who can do so, is to bring light into the substance of the collective mind of humanity.  And as that mind becomes illumined, it prepares the soil, the field for the influx of a greater LIGHT, hierarchical light. And then, as the mind becomes lighted, it is prepared to respond to the attractive power of love and a new recognition of humanity’s place within the larger whole dawns on the awakening mind and heart.

Then humanity can begin to fulfill its role as the mediator, the god with the winged feet who travels fleet-footedly between that which is above and that which is below. He links.  He reaches out into the light and brings it down to meet the need. In this manner, disillusionment is transformed into action on behalf of others.

The mind is frequently associated with intelligence, with reason, and discernment—that which separates, identifies, and perceives in order to understand and comprehend.  Sometimes overlooked is that the mind is also the plane whereon the soul resides and so is a place of cohesion, creativity, electric interplay, and telepathy.  The mind is also the place of true group consciousness, for the soul which knows itself to be one with all souls, has its existence within the ring-pass-not of the mental plane.

Understanding the role the mind plays in housing the soul, shines light upon its divine function as a linking agent between divinity and form.  The soul produces cohesion, and thus facilitates involution.  Without its existence, divinity would be incapable of appropriating the various forms required for the process of cyclic incarnation.  The soul is in many ways considered the heart center of deity.  It is responsible for the expression of life, and also remains a beacon of radiating light, guiding the weary traveler back towards their source.  Thus, the soul links the expression of life throughout the entire process of evolution.  This is possible because the principle of Mind, upon which the body of the soul is constructed, links the formless world of spiritual reality to the dense objective worlds of intelligent expression.

The human mind is in reality triple in nature.  The lower mind is considered dense and objective and constitutes part of the personality or objective form. The higher mind is considered formless.  The higher mind is what enables the intuition, that realm of pure truth, to take form.  The soul exists as the linking agent between the two and for this reason is sometimes referred to as the Son of Mind.  It is considered the progeny of mind because it is born of the interaction of the higher and the lower minds; and links them together.  It is sometimes described as masculine, because it is an active and magnetic center through which the Will of God is imposed—imposed through love—upon the world of form.

In another sense, however, the soul is also negative, or feminine, because it is responsive to that which lies above it in the great Hierarchy of spiritual Life.  The soul, and likewise the mind, is thus a great linking agent.  Receiving, or invoking impression from divinity, and distributing this spiritual energy, this divine will, to humanity and the lower kingdoms in nature.  Through this process, which we call the science of impression, the soul becomes a bridge of consciousness and a portal to the higher worlds upon which each will one day pass.  Through this process, the formless world of spiritual reality becomes manifest within the three worlds of form.

Upon its own plane, however, the nature of the soul is best understood in terms of a group relation entirely independent of form life.  This relationship is difficult to comprehend, for it is more than simply an awareness of one’s relationship to the group, or knowledge that one is part of a larger group.  These types of considerations imply relationship between the personality and the soul, the self and the not-self.  The relationship of the soul to other souls is characterized by a magnetic group interplay and the resolution of normally perceived duality.  In this relationship, the duality inherit in the lower aspect of the mind—between the self and the not self—is subsumed into that of group identity.  The relationship between self and the other is transcended and replaced by the relationship between group and group, and between the group and the role that that group is to play in the revelation of the Divine Plan.  In this relationship, “the other” no longer exists and nothing but differentiated Life expressed as intelligent purpose, remains.

Groups of souls, functioning in this way, are able to contact and distribute a much greater measure of energy than the individual, for they constitute a significant part of the planetary life.  These groups evoke beneficent energies from cosmic sources and distribute them throughout the planet.  Their significance extends even into the ring-pass-not of the evolving life of our Solar Logos, that great entity which expresses Itself through our Solar System.

Though it may be beyond us to entirely transcend the duality of our lower natures and to identify completely with our soul group, we can act “as if”, and thereby begin to build the bridge in consciousness which will eventually make this identification possible.  The as-if attitude is in reality a creative use of the faculty of imagination, and can produce significant effects by linking consciousness and form.  Identifying with the soul is to identify with the soul within each individual—all differentiated units of the one life are in fact part of one inseparable group.

This has clear application for the Triangles work.  When we engage the mind in visualizing and imagining the lighted network of light and love, we can also strive to identify with this network and with all of the points of radiating will within it.  We are that Divine Will—but we are also all the points of will within the group.  This is the meaning of true group consciousness, and when done effectively evokes energy from cosmic sources and brings unity to our normally perceived sense of separation between self and other.  This energy, evoked by the group, is distributed through the numerous points of living will which are each of us within the Triangles network.
