New Moon Meeting

Meditation is the primary form of service for those following a spiritual path. It is a means of cooperation and alignment with hierarchical intent. The new moon period follows upon the cycle of outbreathing in the rhythmic cycles of the breath; it is a time of pause wherein together we can establish a soul-mind-brain alignment.  During this period we work in thought to concretize the ideas and impressions received at the time of the full moon period and undertake the sometimes difficult process of translating them into practical plans that can be of service in the world. The effect of this meditative effort is to enhance the many ways in which the “power of the one Life” and the “love of the one soul” are working out through all true servers everywhere. The meeting will be held in our offices at 866 United Nations Plaza, Suite 482; it will include a brief talk on the theme The Spiritual Cost of Busy-ness, group discussion and meditation. Please call or email us prior to the meeting.  We can also register you automatically for each meeting if you let us know of your interest.

Theme: The Spiritual Cost of “Busy-ness”

The sign of Gemini represents duality and the interplay of opposites. Ideally, this interplay of opposites remains in balance and results in a harmonic ebb and flow. But as the pace of modern life speeds up, we often find ourselves out of balance, caught in a whirlwind of mental, physical, and/or social activity. When the activity of our outer world becomes too great—when we succumb to the glamour of busy-ness—we are in danger of losing our connection with the inner world of Spirit.  However, if we place the focus of our lives on service, we are more likely to find balance and a deepened inner connection—even amidst the stress of modern life.

The Gemini New Moon provides us with a good opportunity to pause and reflect on the ways in which humanity is too active, distracted, and over-stimulated. In this New Moon meeting, we will discuss the spiritual consequences of a hyperactive world and how energetic balance might be restored in our homes, communities, and governments.

The ebb and flow of daily life during a particular incarnation will also demonstrate its interludes, and these the aspirant has to learn to recognize and to utilise. He has to register the distinction between intense outgoing activity, periods of withdrawal, and interludes wherein the outer life seems static and free from active interest. This he must do if he is to avail himself fully of the opportunity which life experience is intended to furnish. The whole of life is not concentrated in one furious continuous stretch of rushing forth to work, nor is it comprehended in one eternal siesta. It has normally its own rhythmic beat and vibration, and its own peculiar pulsation. –Alice Bailey, Serving Humanity, p. 106

Questions for reflection and discussion:

  1. What lies behind the outward drive toward hyperactivity in our world and personal lives? Are the causes materialistic, a response to heightened spiritual stimulation, and/or something else?

  2. What are the consequences of an overstimulated emotional, mental, or physical body? How does this overstimulation play out more broadly in our communities or governments?
