Radiation in the Light of a Divine Plan

Dear co-worker,
History would be a wonderful thing – if it were only true! These humorous words, widely accredited to the Russian novelist, Leo Tolstoy, raise the serious question of how we can know anything about the past for sure? History encompasses at least three different ways of accessing the past: it can be remembered, recovered or invented. And like all human enterprises, history is susceptible to bias, self-righteousness, pride, deliberate perversion or obfuscation. It’s therefore difficult for historians to piece together different accounts of the “truth” and construct a coherent narrative on which everyone agrees.
Despite the enormity of the challenge, a grand “common narrative” is nevertheless emerging in disciplines such as Big History and Deep History. Big History integrates the history of “the Cosmos, Earth, Life and Humanity, using the best empirical evidence and scholarly methods,” while Deep History studies the distant past of the human species, encouraging the collaborative efforts of experts in anthropology, archaeology, primatology, genetics and linguistics. The resulting accounts are intelligent and persuasive, and consequently, if the Ageless Wisdom teachings are not to be placed in the “invented” section of evolutionary history, some explanation is required as to why there are such huge disparities between its account of evolution and that of modern academia
To take one example, The Ageless Wisdom claims that, twelve million years ago, “Heights of luxury were reached in Atlantis of which we, with all our boasted civilisation, know nothing and have never achieved… All that the modern processes of civilisation have made possible, and much more than that which today comes under the name of scientific discovery were known… Sanitation, hygiene, means of transportation and air machines were developed and of a very high order; these were not the result however of man’s achievement but gifts from the [Spiritual] Hierarchy, developed or constructed under a wise guidance.”1
How can such a bizarre statement stand up to the rigorous scrutiny of the modern, educated mind and all the evidence that contradicts the Ageless Wisdom perspective? One answer may be that the current method of establishing distant historical timelines through the radioactive properties of certain materials is not applicable. Conventional science works on the premise that evolution is confined to biological organisms, but esoteric teachings state that all forms, including the elements and the atoms of which they are comprised, are alive and evolving! From this perspective, radioactivity in the mineral kingdom is a comparatively recent development in natural history – the late eighteenth century being stated as the time when electrical stimulation from a cosmic source started to flow into the earth, drawing it forth.2 This would clearly and profoundly affect the calibration for the radioactive dating of rocks and other materials, and call back into question the age of many geological features, biological specimens and archaeological artifacts.
The story of a technologically advanced civilisation millions of years ago would then be more plausible, especially if coupled with the Ageless Wisdom’s view that the impulse of evolution occurs from within rather than from without. The physical world with all its life forms is but the outer shell of inner worlds and the present earth and its life forms originated in a highly ethereal condition and gradually materialized and condensed during the descending arc of the earth’s evolution. This stage has now passed, and the earth is on the reascending arc where humanity is becoming an active participant in the spiritualization of the world
This is the grand narrative of esoteric history and the effect of the process is one of increasing radiation. It proposes that this is occurring to some extent in all kingdoms of nature and “in every instance… [it]… is one and the same… The radioactive human being is the same in nature (differing only in degree and in conscious response) as the radioactive mineral; in every case it is the central positive life, the electric spark or that which is its correspondence, which radiates… When the subject of radiation is more completely comprehended, it will be found that it demonstrates one more instance of the unity of all life, and furnishes one more corroborative indication of the synthetic nature of the entire evolutionary process.”3
In this view, the timeline of history is unfolding in conformity to a Divine Plan that is purposefully guiding all life-forms towards an incredible, if inexplicable destiny. Radiation is not so much the goal of this Plan, but an effect of a life-form evolving towards it. While it demonstrates as radioactivity in the more highly evolved units of the mineral kingdom, in the plant kingdom, it demonstrates as perfume. In the animal kingdom, the higher, domesticated types radiate the attractive energy of devotion, and in the human species, radiation is demonstrated primarily as the pure reason of the intelligent, loving mind. This love is not so much a refined expression of the emotional nature as an intuitional form of love that is rooted in an understanding of the interpenetrating ecologies of divine relationships that are unfolding in accordance with the destined future. The halo of golden light portrayed around the great religious icons of the past is a striking symbol of this form of radiation.
Such a halo exists in latency around the whole of the human kingdom, awaiting the spark of a new religious impulse to set it ablaze. Liberated from dogma, such an impulse may inspire human consciousness with a sense of plan and purpose lying behind the evolutionary unfoldment of life on earth. This is of prime importance if humanity is to wisely manage the stimulating effect of the cosmic source mentioned earlier. Its full effect is yet to be experienced and we are told that, by means of it, certain discoveries are possible, and “the new order comes in upon 4 it”: a “tremendous happening may be looked for, and the time lies immediately ahead… in the great revelation which is near at hand, the Hierarchy will… bring about certain events which will work out primarily in the human kingdom but which will also be seen as force regeneration in the mineral kingdom.”4
Whatever this revelation might be, these developments are worth pondering in relation to humanity’s increasing manipulation of the mineral kingdom, especially in connection with the discovery of a new form of carbon called graphene.5 This “wonder material” is electrically conductive in a transparent state, has powerful magnetic properties and interacts strongly with light. It is predicted to play a substantial part in what is commonly referred to as the Fourth Industrial Revolution.6 These developments are set to herald another planetary milestone in the history of the unfolding Plan of evolution, but only if paralleled by a new enlightenment in consciousness.
The story of the Atlantean civilisation is a story of obsession with material things and a consequent plunge into decadence. Despite similar trends now, there are also signs everywhere that there is a significant flowering of mass consciousness in the light of the Divine Plan. The world-wide pandemic has caused untold suffering for millions of people, but the “sharp shears of sorrow” are helping to separate the real from the unreal, highlighting what is important and what is not. Faint indications of how a future group radiation of selfless, intelligent love would revolutionize the world are being demonstrated by large numbers of the general public at this time. As we approach the three Spiritual Festivals, we have the opportunity to enhance this radiation at a critical point in the world’s history.
