Sustainable Development Goals, the United Nations and the Libra Full Moon

October 6, 2015

A significant event in the heavens occurred during the period of the Sustainable Development Summit at UN Headquarters in New York. The full moon (with the sun in Libra) was late in the evening of Sunday, the final day of the Summit. And it was not just any full moon – popularly called a ‘Supermoon’ the moon was especially close to earth so it appeared much larger in the night sky than usual. And there was a full lunar eclipse producing a red effect on the moon. There have been only 4 full eclipses during a supermoon since 1900 – so this was an unusual astronomical event. It should not surprise us that a significant alignment in the heavens was accompanied by such a significant gathering at the UN.

From the ageless wisdom perspective humanity is in process of shifting from a culture characterised by Pisces – a culture of separation and devotion to an ideal – towards a culture characterised by Aquarius with keynotes of wholeness and sharing.

Up until now the challenge of incarnating wholeness has largely been a struggle led by pioneering individuals and fringe alternative movements. Yet now we are entering a time when the systems and structures of society and of law are consciously facing Aquarian challenges – and doing so in Libran ways.

Governments Adopt Historic Final Declaration on Post-2015 Development Agenda

August 5, 2015

On Thursday, 30 July 2015, just hours before governments began their final negotiations on a Transformative Agenda for Sustainable Development, World Goodwill was represented at a side event, “Preparing for the implementation phase of the post-2015 development agenda.”

There was a visionary air to the gathering.

The Ambassador of South Africa, H.E. Mr. Jeremiah N. Kingsley Mamabolo, emphasized that goodwill must be ensured in order for the goals to be implemented.

All of humanity needs to own the goals, he said, “all hands on deck,” and we all need to feel accountable.  He envisioned accountability being strengthened by systemic intergovernmental support, and defined good governance as the responsibility of governments to people and as being at the root of implementation.

Time to Uphold Women’s and Girls Human Rights in the Post-2015 Development Agenda

July 29, 2015

On Friday, 24 July, World Goodwill was represented at a side-event of the post-2015 development planning on the Human Rights of Women and Girls.  The focus was on the Global South regional perspectives from Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

There were three main points that were emphasized from all regions.

1)   In many cases, the laws have been written and put in place in addressing issues of violence against women and girls, but the laws are not enforced.

2)   Although goal #5 is “achieve gender equality and empower all [11183468_1743933142500155_2659331470972016041_n] women and girls,” it was the general consensus that violence against women and girls had much to do with other goals as well.  Specifically, the goals to end poverty, improve health, and ensure education were viewed as an integral part of gender equality.

3)   There was unanimous agreement that the means of implementation be included in the outcome document for the UN Summit to adopt the Post-2015 Development Agenda in September.
