As the Three Spiritual Festivals move toward their conclusion, we stand within their collective potencies and reflect on one of their most outstanding features, that of the active, living and ever-present essence of the Christ, the World Teacher. Christ is the Light of the World, the Embodiment of Love and the Indicator of divine Purpose. He brings forth the light and energy which flood throughout the world of human consciousness at this high point in the annual cycle.
Down the ages other world teachers have come to lift humanity and enlighten the darkness of their times, and amongst these great avatars, at the centre of all planetary life, stands the Christ. His radiance continues, and His anchorage of Divine Love opens the unfolding path for all. Because of the position the Christ occupies in the evolution of our planetary Life, He is the focal point of all endeavour, the ‘way’ of spiritual unfoldment. He belongs to all humanity regardless of religion, nationality, race, or social and cultural background. He is ‘the same great Identity’ as those who are recognised by different names within diverse religious traditions and beliefs.
The Christ’s pivotal role represents the synthesis of dualities – the God-man, human-divine, a fusion of the vertical way of at-one-ment and the horizontal way of service. He is the relation between life and form, spirit and matter, the innermost consciousness of all creation awaiting revelation. He is human experience fused with the inner life force which gives coherence, intelligence and purpose to life. The Christ, as World Teacher, is a Person, a Presence and a Principle, bringing together in one continuous flow of energy, the cosmic fountainhead, the planetary manifestation and the human expression. He is power and livingness, love and wisdom, light and understanding.
The consciousness that He brings is innovative, the quintessence of the creativity required for the building of a better world for all, heralding the new age; His is the driving power within the human heart and mind which refreshes all forms of life and informs the coming civilisation. He is the magnetic and attractive force which ‘lifts up’ and redeems the density of materialism. He ignites the spark of divinity within each human being. He is the fiery love of God for Man which inspires sacrifice and renunciation.
The Christ is the archetype of the true Aquarian who is co-operative, inclusive, intelligent and actively concerned for the welfare of others. Christ’s motive is love of humanity; His keynote is service. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life for all mankind. He is the beacon in the darkness, the essence of divine truth and reality, the guarantor of ultimate spiritual achievement for ‘as He is so can we be in this world’.
