The Promise in Spiritual Compromise - June 2021

"The three words: modify, qualify and adapt, have definite reference to the three worlds wherein the Plan must manifest." (Discipleship in the New Age, Vol II, p. 390)

A compromise, in the ordinary understanding, is an agreement between two parties that pleases neither party completely. But we are seeking to elevate the meaning, and certainly beyond one that focuses on that which pleases or displeases the personality. Tracing back the meaning to the early 15th century, we find that a compromise is “a joint promise to abide by an arbiter’s decision”. This may give us a clue on how to re-define compromise in spiritual terms. We could suggest that, from the angle of spirit, the arbiter or judge is Truth, or Reality itself.  This could imply that compromise, in its higher meaning, is the recognition of the promise, the potential, latent within a situation, and the joint agreement by those recognising this to strive to realise that potential.

When we consider what the Triangles network is seeking to accomplish, namely, altering the planetary etheric vehicle from a network of squares to one of triangles, we can see the end result of such a spiritual compromise emerging. This represents nothing less than a complete renovation of the planetary etheric organism, producing a freer flow of universal life. From another angle, we could say that this is the promise that Triangles members make to one another, to strive to realise this extraordinary transformation, by modifying, qualifying, and adapting their sense of the fundamental meaning of relationships. For triangular relationships, if they are fully equalised and free of personality - in other words, true soul-soul-soul relationships - are the supreme agents of the free flow of light and love.

There is another sense in which we can think of Triangles work connecting with spiritual compromise. Any person who feels drawn to this work is also likely to be sensitive to the recognition of how much more fully the life of spirit could be expressed in the world. Yet at the same time, this insight must balance with the recognition that the cyclic opportunity, and the current burden of individual and collective karma, may not yet allow this full expression. So each person in the Triangles network stands in the role of the mediating arbiter, becoming a point of dynamic tension between ‘heaven’ and ‘earth’. Participating in the universal threefold structure of the Triangle may help stabilise this difficult balancing act, and facilitate the distribution of higher energies. Thus, by becoming masters of the art of spiritual compromise in our individual lives, we can together help realise the great promise that lies inherent in the structure of the Earth, transforming it into a sacred planet.
