The Urge to Creative Life

The following remarks were broadcast on the Triangles Webinar on June 26, 2017:

There is a beautiful passage in the teachings which could be meditated upon during this period, giving us insights into the energies now available to us and how we can work more effectively with them.  It states, “That which is to be revealed lies all around us and within us.   It is the significance of all that is embodied in form, the meaning behind the appearance, the reality veiled by the symbol, the truth expressed in substance. (Esoteric Psychology, Vol. II, pp. 247).”  This unveiling of the symbol is the whole objective of the spiritual path, for at every stage of that path, at each turn within the spiral, we are given glimpses into a reality that lies as yet beyond our grasp. As we seek to capture those glimpses and manifest them in some way, they become the seeds and catalyst of our next step upon the Path of Return.  During this period of “outpouring” in the cycles of the breath, our challenge is to learn to work with the matter aspect, with the form life and the hidden splendour which it veils.  Our challenge therefore is to seek to impress that matter with that which we garnered during the recently passed higher interlude period and to use those impressions and manifest them in some form that will contribute to the working out of the divine Plan within our world.

The quote we opened with comes from one of the seven rules for inducing soul control, the rule entitled “The Urge to the Creative Life.”  This name beautifully expresses the intention of the rule.  It demonstrates the idea that a fundamental quality and need of the soul is to create.  True creative expression is a soul right, a soul urge.  Freedom, or at least the feeling of freedom [for surely we have no real conception of what true freedom is], is akin to joy. For freedom releases one from the usual constraints, engendering, at least momentarily, the capacity to radiate that joy within the confines of the form. But as this rule states, the artist, or the creative worker in any field, must be willing to withstand the pain of revelation.  This urge to create carries within it the potential to transport one into a period of heightened alignment wherein, at least momentarily, one is lifted out of the mundane world with its usual obfuscation and preoccupations, into a reality wherein one sees and knows with a seeming certainty that love underlies all things. But then, just as quickly the revelation fades and the individual loses the alignment and connection with the creative spark. The problem here is not that the realm of truth and beauty has faded but rather that the creative worker himself has, through lack of ability, been unable to sustain the connection and the vision fades out.  His task then is to somehow create some form with which to embody and express at least a measure of the inspiration received so as to share it with others.

As one becomes better able to bear the pain of revelation and to attain the requisite alignment, the subsequent periods of inspiration will be sustained for longer periods of time with a consequent heightened ability to bring through those ideas and forms that will embody and release the new truths that are hovering on the verge of precipitation. Humanity is now demonstrating just such a responsiveness to this soul rule and one of the ways this is working out is through the freedom which technological advances are holding out to our world.  Because of the increasing mechanization of the workforce many jobs are disappearing and the idea in the tech world is growing that a guaranteed minimum income will be the wave of the future.  As humanity has to work less there will be more time for soul expression and consequently more creative living.

Our challenge is to not allow ourselves to succumb to the discouragement that is such a part of the creative process and the fourth ray facility to vacillate between the poles, an influence that governs humanity as a whole.  For discouragement and undue response to human suffering could render our work futile.

We who work in Triangles are daily involved with a service project that is concerned with bringing through these subjective realities, with tapping into the beauty and livingness which underlies the happenings of the times and releasing them through the five planetary centers, providing inspiration and soul energy to the group of world servers. To some people, who do not believe in subjective reality, such activities might seem whimsical, not reality based. But every group of people have their particular strengths, their service to render to the greater whole, and our strength is our very ability to see, as the quote stated, the “reality veiled by the symbol, the truth expressed in substance.”  It is to the realization of this truth and to the unveiling of that symbol, that we daily dedicate ourselves.
