Technology that supports peace and social cohesion: Examples and case studies
Lisa Schirch
Lisa Schirch, a political scientist by training, is Professor of the Practice of Peacebuilding and Technology at the University of Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs. Schirch has 30 years of experience in peacebuilding research, policy advocacy, practice, and teaching. Her current research focuses on the positive roles of technology in "peacetech" and "digital peacebuilding." She also holds the title of Senior Research Fellow with the Toda Peace Institute, where she coordinates with civil society and technology companies to experiment and innovate new technologies that can scale social cohesion. She has experience in peace process design, mediation, and facilitation in over 20 countries and built the first peacebuilding policy initiative in Washington, DC as the Founding Director of the Alliance for Peacebuilding's Policy Program.

Sedarius Tekara Perrotta is a seasoned software entrepreneur, CEO and a recognized expert in Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Management(KM). He has utilized his deep expertise to help 100's of companies improve their knowledge automation strategy . Sedarius was one of the pioneers in applying Artificial Intelligence to KM having built, deployed and advocated ML/NLP algorithms for over a decade. His Knowledge Management and AI expertise have come together to benefit organizations like the World Bank, Harvard Business School, and MIT.
Sedarius is the cofounder/ CEO of Shelf and has led the company to numerous accolades, including the "KM Product of the Year" in 2021 and 2023 in CIO Review. His thought leadership has been featured in Fast Company, Forbes, and Yahoo News, where he continues to influence the intersection of knowledge management, artificial intelligence, and the future of work.
Sedarius is a Georgetown University alumnus and a participant of MIT's New Enterprise Program, Sedarius' career has been marked by diverse experiences, including a term as a US Peace Corp volunteer and a mentor at the Founders Institute. Sedarius remains committed to driving Shelf's mission to empower humanity with better, more accurate answers everywhere.

Andrew Binstock has spent his career in technology. He was formerly the editor in chief of Java Magazine, and before that he was the editor of Dr. Dobb’s Journal. Earlier, he headed up technology forecasts at Price Waterhouse. He lives in Northern California with his wife. When he’s not developing open-source software, he studies piano.
