So what is right speech? Silence is one of the major contributing factors to right speech. Several thousands of years ago, Pythagoras required his neophytes to refrain from speech for two years. While this practice is not typically required by esoteric students, the Tibetan emphasizes that the practice of silence prepares and is a prerequisite for future initiations. Thus, esoteric students need to learn when to speak and to be silent, and to take the responsibility concerning their quality of speech. Even Ashrams have cycles in which silence is imposed. Thus, each person who can control their tongue, can learn to master themselves

The inner voice is not what we refer to as “gut feeling” in our solar plexus. We have an old saying in Hungarian, according to which you cannot make a good decision unless you are blessed with the “presence of the Soul”. In English, the translation is normally “presence of mind” but the Hungarian language clearly states the presence of the Soul is required, not that of the mind. This is often used to describe good decisions made in grave, often life-and-death situations, where one cannot analyze all the available information to arrive at a decision, either because information isn’t available or there isn’t enough time to analyze. This would imply that the inner voice is a flash – it can be sensed or seen for a split second, and then it disappears. However, the presence of the inner voice can be longer: it should be cultivated in the background of our lives, always close to the surface, but rising above the surface and becoming visible at will, every time it is needed. It is like a reservoir to draw upon in our daily lives, not just to make seemingly important decisions.

The treading of the Path up to and including the stage of the Transfiguration of the personality by the soul, may be considered in terms of overcoming the four aspects of world glamour, which are Maya, Glamour, Illusion and the Dweller on the threshold—these are glamour on the etheric-physical, astral, mental and the energies and the forces of the sum total of all debits and credits of the integrated personality respectively. In all these conflicting conditionings, harmony lies in bringing about fusion between some energy from a higher plane than the plane on which the duality is sensed or experienced, this then unifies the duality and the conflict is resolved.

As viewed from earth, the Sun is now reaching a point in the sky, called “Equinox”. As human beings on this planet, we are not disconnected from this astronomical fact, this yearly crisis point. Some may object that it is an illusion, as it is the earth which moves around the sun, but this earthly realm is our present field of evolution, and we are immersed in this illusion caused by humanity’s past experiences. So it is from this viewpoint that the celestial influences must be considered. They are real for us, and come to us as different types of energy that we must learn to wield.
